Parent's section
This page is aimed at the most important advisors for our future apprentices and students on our dual study program: you, the parents.
Starting a career is a big step into a new world. Here, children need trust, support, and self-confidence. That's why we would like to give you as parents valuable tips and information on career orientation so that you can best accompany your child on the path to their dream job. Our experience shows that your child will be most successful in the application process and later in their career if you act as an advisor in the background and your child takes care of their career choice independently and authentically.
Tips for parents - Inform
Discuss apprenticeship and study opportunities:
Find out together about different apprenticeship and study programs in order to make the best possible decision.
Encourage to take the initiative:
Motivate your child to research information about different jobs independently and to find out about requirements and activities.
Use online resources:
Show your child websites and online platforms for career orientation, such as Azubiyo.de, which offer career tests and information materials.
Visit career orientation fairs:
Take the opportunity to attend career orientation fairs with your child. These offer a wealth of information and direct contact to various companies and educational institutions.
Connect your child with people you trust:
Find people around you who work in jobs that interest your child and arrange conversations or job shadowing opportunities.
Create a realistic schedule:
Help your child create a plan for the next steps, including application deadlines, test dates, and information sessions. At UniCredit, we post our apprenticeship and dual study positions one and a half years prior to the start date.
Tips for parents - Encourage
Create a strengths and weaknesses analysis:
Develop a list of personal strengths and weaknesses with your child and discuss which jobs might fit them.
Boost soft skills:
Help your child develop important social skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.
Support extracurricular activities:
Help your child participate in extracurricular activities and projects that expand their interests and skills.
Encourage networking:
Help your child make contacts, whether through school projects, clubs or social media, to build a professional network.
Facilitate internships:
Encourage your child to do internships during school holidays to gain practical experience in different professional fields. Help your child find suitable internships and provide support with organization and transportation.
Tips for parents - Support
Have regular conversations:
Discuss your child's professional interests and future plans together to better understand their wishes and goals.
Take your child's wishes seriously:
Listen carefully and support your child's professional ambitions and interests with respect and seriousness.
Be patient and supportive:
Recognize that the process of finding a career takes time and that your child may want to try several options before making a decision.
Leave the decisions to your child:
Give advice and support, but don't make decisions for your child. It is important that your child finds his or her own path.
