Parent's section

This page is aimed at the most important advisors for our future apprentices and students on our dual study program: you, the parents.

Starting a career is a big step into a new world. Here, children need trust, support, and self-confidence. That's why we would like to give you as parents valuable tips and information on career orientation so that you can best accompany your child on the path to their dream job. Our experience shows that your child will be most successful in the application process and later in their career if you act as an advisor in the background and your child takes care of their career choice independently and authentically.

Tips for parents - Inform

Discuss apprenticeship and study opportunities:

Find out together about different apprenticeship and study programs in order to make the best possible decision.

Encourage to take the initiative:

Motivate your child to research information about different jobs independently and to find out about requirements and activities.

Use online resources:

Show your child websites and online platforms for career orientation, such as Azubiyo.de, which offer career tests and information materials.

Visit career orientation fairs:

Take the opportunity to attend career orientation fairs with your child. These offer a wealth of information and direct contact to various companies and educational institutions.

Connect your child with people you trust:

Find people around you who work in jobs that interest your child and arrange conversations or job shadowing opportunities.

Create a realistic schedule:

Help your child create a plan for the next steps, including application deadlines, test dates, and information sessions. At UniCredit, we post our apprenticeship and dual study positions one and a half years prior to the start date.

Tips for parents - Encourage

Create a strengths and weaknesses analysis:

Develop a list of personal strengths and weaknesses with your child and discuss which jobs might fit them.

Boost soft skills:

Help your child develop important social skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.

Support extracurricular activities:

Help your child participate in extracurricular activities and projects that expand their interests and skills.

Encourage networking:

Help your child make contacts, whether through school projects, clubs or social media, to build a professional network.

Facilitate internships:

Encourage your child to do internships during school holidays to gain practical experience in different professional fields. Help your child find suitable internships and provide support with organization and transportation.

Tips for parents - Support

Have regular conversations:

Discuss your child's professional interests and future plans together to better understand their wishes and goals.

Take your child's wishes seriously:

Listen carefully and support your child's professional ambitions and interests with respect and seriousness.

Be patient and supportive:

Recognize that the process of finding a career takes time and that your child may want to try several options before making a decision.

Leave the decisions to your child:

Give advice and support, but don't make decisions for your child. It is important that your child finds his or her own path.

Interview with our apprenticeship consultants

Head of Talent Center
  1. What advantages do apprentices / students on your dual study program have through training in your company?
With an apprenticeship / a dual study program in a crisis-proof company that has regional roots and at the same time is internationally positioned with the UniCredit Group, your child is laying an important foundation for a great career. In our apprenticeship / dual study program, your child will learn about economic contexts and gain exciting insights into banking.

  2. How does the application process work?
Immediately after applying on unicredit.job-shop.com, your child will receive a link to an online test. As soon as we have viewed the results, an initial introductory phone call (~20 minutes) will take place. The last step is a final selection interview (~60 minutes) or Assessment Centre - after which your child will immediately receive detailed feedback.

  3. How is the apprenticeship / dual study program structured in your company?
Both the apprenticeship and the dual study program have two “phases”:
In the so-called basic training, your child automatically goes through many of the bank's departments in order to strengthen their theoretical knowledge in practice. The so-called specialization phase begins in the last quarter of the apprenticeship - this is where your child has the opportunity to get to know a department in more detail, for example in order to prepare for a possible job after the apprenticeship. It is important to us that your child does not just watch during the apprenticeship, but also takes on responsibility little by little so that they are perfectly prepared for their future job immediately after the apprenticeship.

  4. Are there any special offers during the apprenticeship / dual study program?
In addition to the practice and the vocational school / university, we of course offer our apprentices accompanying seminars. As part of HypoVereinsbank, your child can take advantage of our huge range of employee benefits. In addition to discounts, for example on public transport, your child has countless other advantages in terms of leisure activities, holiday offers and of course financial services.

  5. Do you have any special projects for apprentices / students on your dual study program?
At the beginning of the apprenticeship / dual study program, your child will start a one-week introductory seminar together with all other apprentices and students on our dual study program: “First Steps”. Our development consulting is a very important part of the apprenticeship / dual study program, as well. Immediately after the start of the apprenticeship, your child will receive extensive feedback and together we will further work on his or her strengths and areas of development. This extends throughout the entire period of the apprenticeship / dual study program. Several times during the apprenticeship / dual study program there are various development and career days where we discuss the opportunities in our company together.

  6. How good are the chances of being taken on after the apprenticeship / the dual strudy program?
It is very important to us to train our apprentices and the students on our dual study program well and to then take them on to attractive positions.

  7. What further development opportunities do apprentices / students on the dual study program have after completing their training with you?
Your child will gain a great insight into many of their possibilities during their apprenticeship / dual study program. As part of the UniCredit Group, the countless career opportunities are not limited by any (national) borders.
Your child can develop further within the entire UniCredit Group and use our network to jump into an international career.
Of course, this is not an obligation - as a company operating throughout Germany, we also have great development opportunities in your home region. Your child is their own navigator.
We support your child with great development and mentoring programs - even after the apprenticeship / dual study program.

  8. What requirements do you place on the apprentices / students on the dual study program? How important are school grades to you? What strengths should the applicants bring with them?
Of course, school grades are important to a certain extent - but the human aspect is particularly important to us when hiring. Through the diversity in the workforce and among our customers, we build on the diversity of our employees. Commitment, the ability to learn and the desire to constantly develop yourself and the company are very important to us - this should best align with our values.

  9. What tips would you give applicants?
To be open and honest - this is the only way we can make a sensible decision for our future together.
Ultimately, the selection process is not just about us as an employer making a decision. Your child also makes a decision in the application process - so there is no need to be shy or even afraid, but rather your child can show themselves what they are like.
